Shinjuku Gyoen is a popular place for Sakura (cherry blossoms) and is a park with many visitors. On the weekend on a sunny day, as many as 80,000 people a day visit, it takes time to enter. In recent years it is inevitable to wait for shooting due to an increase in foreign tourists & smartphone holders.
The closest thing to the "Cherry tree area (桜園地)" is 'Sendagaya gate (千駄ヶ谷門)'.

* Shinjuku Gate (新宿門) is very crowded.
During the cherry blossom season, luggage checks are done at the time of entry. Do not bring alcoholic beverages or dangerous goods.
Entering from Sendagaya gate, the right side is "Cherry tree area (桜園地)".

The left side is the lawn square (芝生広場).
On cherry blossoms in full bloom, "selfie people" will concentrate.
There are cherry blossoms that face up and bloom at part of the lawn square. "KoHigan Sakura (小彼岸桜)" is called.
It is a road between "Cherry tree area" and "Azalea Hill".
"Cherry tree area" is the place with the most cherry blossoms.

There is a bridge between "Nakano ike (Middle pond)" and "Shimono ike (Lower pond)". Beside the bridge, "Shidarezakura (枝垂桜 / weeping cherry)" are in bloom.
