• Hokoku Jinja Shrine (豊国神社)

    The most open feeling and unfinished shrine in Japan!

Hokoku Jinja (豊国神社) is the biggest building in Miyajima. There is a space of 857 tatami mats and it is called "Senjō kaku (千畳閣)".   Toyotomi Hideyoshi ordered the construction, but since it died before completion, it remains unfinished.   * It is designated as an important cultural property of the country.

When you go up this staircase, you will pass through a place with a nice view called "Tou no Oka (塔の岡)".

This Ochaya (お茶屋 / teahouse) is located in the "Tou no Oka (塔の岡)".

The pine on the road is called "Ryuzen no Matsu (龍髯の松)".

Because it resembles a dragon's beard, this name was attached.

When you climb up the stairs you will arrive in front of "Houkoku Jinja (豊国神社)".

There is a "Goju-no-to (五重塔 / five-story pagoda)" opposite Shrine. The height is 27.6 m.

Because it is incomplete, there is no wall. So, the wind passes through.
